Birth Preparation

This is an extension of the pregnancy yoga class, helping the ‘parents to be’ prepare for the birthing process. We will explore various positions for labour, breathing, and how your partner can aid you in the labouring process. It is the beginning of your journey into parenthood.

The preparation for labour will commence with breathwork and a summary of session content. We then engage in the physical aspect, including positions for labour, massage, breathwork and rebozo techniques. We will explore the important role of resting, nesting and visualisations during labour, as well as the partner’s major role of supporting the birthing space and caring for the labouring woman.

Partners build confidence, and learn to inhabit their role within the process of labour - providing food and drink, soft verbal encouragement, massage, and physical support through surges. They negotiate and control the birthing space, enabling the labouring woman to get into the zone., These classes should leave the birth partner feeling confident and understanding that they have an active role within the labour process.

These classes usually take about two hours. We will use props that you have available at home, all things that you will be able to use during labour.
